What is a bill of quantities (BOQ)?
A bill of quantities lists every item of work in a building, how much of each there is, the rate for it and the amount. It is how Kenyan projects are priced, tendered and paid for.
A BOQ splits a building into its work: excavate this many cubic metres, build this many square metres of walling, fix this many doors. Each line has a quantity, a unit, a rate and an amount, and the amounts add up to the cost. Contractors tender against it, and progress payments are measured against it.
JengaCost gives you the bill in three formats:
- Cost plan: by element, best for budgeting and comparing.
- SMM7 measured bill: items measured to the Standard Method of Measurement.
- Detailed elemental bill (Pro): the format a Kenyan QS issues, numbered element by element and floor by floor.
