How much contingency should I allow?

Contingency is money set aside for what nobody can see yet: bad ground, price rises, changes of mind. JengaCost lets you set your own percentage rather than choosing one for you. Ask your QS, and allow more for a difficult site or a long build.

A budget estimate is made before the site is dug and before every choice is made, so something will cost more than planned. A contingency keeps that from stopping the build halfway.

Set it on the compare page or a project's phasing page. It is added to every stage, so the timeline allows for it too. A build spread over several years is more exposed to price rises than one built in a single go.
