How does comparing houses work?

Choose two to four houses, or one house at different finishes or roof forms. JengaCost prices each at your county's rates, sets them side by side, and ranks them by the priorities you choose: cost, space, value per m², speed or fewest unknowns.

On the compare page, enter your county, budget, bedrooms and plot size, then press Find houses that fit for a shortlist from the catalogue. You can also add houses yourself, up to four. For each house you see:

  • the house, plot works and total, with your contingency;
  • cost per m², floor area and the roofed footprint as a share of your plot;
  • the weeks on the build programme, and anything not priced yet;
  • where the money differs between the top two, stage by stage.

Say how much each priority matters to you and the houses are scored on that. A house over your budget, or over the plot coverage you enter, never ranks above one that fits. The ranking is arithmetic on your own priorities, not a judgement that one house is better. Each card also offers variants to try, such as the same house at economy finish or with a different roof.
